This workshop aims to increase health professionals’ skill and confidence in taking a detailed suicide history and developing a collaborative management plan to increase the safety of people planning suicide. The workshop provides practical tools for health professionals managing the full spectrum of suicide risk presentations including the acute suicidal crisis, care after a suicide attempt and assisting families experiencing suicide bereavement.

Learning Outcomes

  • Undertake a suicide risk assessment effectively.
  • Develop a collaborative safety plan.
  • Implement a team approach to treatment planning.
  • Provide effective management following a suicide attempt.
  • Respond to the needs of people bereaved by suicide.

This workshop will de-mystify the GPs work in the increasingly important area of Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders and give participants practical skills and resources to help patients and their families and carers from beginning to end. Our work in this space as generalist practitioners will be honoured and supported by contributions from cutting edge clinicians and researchers from InsideOut and the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine. The 6 hours of learning will be interactive and experiential.

Learning Outcomes

At end of this session GPs will be able to:

1.     Discuss the key challenges in providing ED care using an MD approach.

2.    Understand how to apply ED strategies into general practice consultations.

3.     Recognise the value of collegiate connections with other GP’s who provide complex mental health care in general practice.

4.     Explore evidence-based ED treatment and therapy options appropriate to consumer issues and needs within the context of general practice.
