Recent surveys have indicated that there are high levels of psychological distress and mental ill-health in our community – especially in some groups such as young people. But access to support and services is not equal, and in the recent NMHWB survey only around half of those who met criteria for a diagnosis had sought formal help. This talk will focus on the findings of the Better Access evaluation, and discuss new initiatives and service models that may enhance the mental health system, ensure greater synergy between level of need and response provided, and also make best use of established and emerging workforce types.
