A Rural Generalist is a doctor who has specialised in rural medicine, and is trained to work across primary and secondary care. Rural Generalists have advanced skills in one or more specialised medical fields, including mental health.
The work that these doctors do depends on the needs of the communities that they work in, and other health services that are available. The varied work across different rural and remote contexts is important and often life saving, but is not understood and often overlooked.
The presentation will look into who these doctors are, where they work, how they got there and the good, the bad and the sometimes crazy situations these doctors find themselves in.
