Faiza Khan
I came to Australia in 2004 from Pakistan. My career started as a hospital surgical resident in 2005 followed by acceptance into the Surgical Training Programme in 2007. In 2009, I switched to General Practice and obtained my fellowship in 2012.
As a female GP, I saw many people with complex emotional and social issues, but I was very wary of giving any advice or opinion since this was not something I had learnt in a curriculum or previous training. Feeling lost, my research led me to the CBT course offered by RACGP in 2018 and hence began my tentative journey into the realm of what I now know as 'the whole person care.' I did my diploma in Children's Health before my fellowship and subsequently completed my Masters in Women's Health Medicine in 2016. I obtained a Certificate in Hypnosis, ACT for Beginners, ACT for Trauma and continue to read books and listen to podcasts relevant to clinical and emotional well-being.
I am a registrar and medical student supervisor and interviewer for registrar selection program with occasional stints as an examiner at the RACGP.
